FAQ: Frequently Asked Questions
1. What is an independent insurance agent?
An independent agent is an agent who has access to multiple competing insurers and who have ownership of the business that they write. A captive (exclusive) agent, in contrast, represents a single insurer in the marketplace and does not have ownership of his or her book of business. Therfore, an independent agent is not tied to one insurance company and will find you the lowest rates from multiple competing insurers. In addition, since they own the business they write they will continue to service the policy even after the sale.
